Welcome – I'm so glad you're here! Let me tell you more about Solo WingWoman.
My name is Laura, and I'm the woman behind this little corner of the internet dedicated to celebrating the magic of solo travel.
What started as a personal journey of discovery has also blossomed into a passion for inspiring other women to embrace the world on their own terms.
Travel has been my greatest teacher, my most trusted therapist, and my endless source of joy and wonder.
With every journey, I've collected moments that have shaped who I am today. Each destination has whispered its own secrets, and I've been lucky enough to listen.
But it wasn't always solo adventures for me. I’ve enjoyed and continue to enjoy traveling with family and friends. But like many women, I found I spent so much time waiting for the "right" travel companion, postponing dreams until someone else's schedule aligned with mine.
Then one day, I realized I was letting other people's availability dictate my own adventures. That's when everything changed.
My first solo trip was terrifying and exhilarating in equal measure. Standing in an airport terminal with just my suitcases and a head full of doubts, I had no idea I was about to discover the most empowering version of myself.
Solo travel taught me that I could navigate new cities, make friends with strangers, solve problems on the fly, enjoy my own company, and trust my instincts in ways I never imagined.
There's something incredibly liberating about being entirely responsible for your own adventure.
You can wake up when you want, eat where you're curious to try, linger in museums for hours, or change your entire itinerary on a whim. Solo travel isn't just about seeing the world – it's about discovering who you are when you're completely free to be yourself.
Through years of solo adventures, I've gathered more than frequent flyer miles and photos (though I have tons of those!).
I've learned practical skills like how to research accommodations, navigate an unfamiliar location, and turn anxiety into excitement. More importantly, I've discovered that the stories we tell ourselves about what we "can't" do are often just that – stories.
I've made mistakes, faced challenges, and had moments of doubt, but each experience has added another layer to my confidence and another story to my collection. I believe these real, honest experiences – both the triumphs and the stumbles – are what make travel advice truly valuable.
And I’m still learning!
Much of the advice and information I’m sharing here is from my own personal experiences (that I continue to add to).
I’m also making use of my research skills and love of travel to provide so much more information, towards my goal of hopefully best benefiting you and your travel experiences.
So, full disclosure, while I haven’t been to nearly all the destinations included on this site (especially those outside the United States - but many of them are on my list!), I’m providing you with the information the same way I would if I were planning to travel there.
I created Solo WingWoman because I remember being that woman who dreamed of going so many places but felt held back by fear, uncertainty, or the belief that solo travel wasn't "for me."
I want to be the friend who tells you that not only is it possible, but it's also one of the most rewarding things you'll ever do for yourself.
This site is my love letter to every woman who has ever stared at a destination on her Pinterest board and wondered "what if."
It's for the dreamers, the planners, the spontaneous spirits, and yes, even the worriers.
Whether you're considering your first solo trip or a seasoned adventurer seeking fresh inspiration, I want this space to feel like sitting down with a trusted friend who's been there and wants to share everything she's learned.
My goal isn't just to inspire you to travel solo, though I absolutely hope I do that.
I want to help you approach solo travel with confidence, prepare thoughtfully, and embrace the incredible growth that comes from stepping outside your comfort zone.
I want to show you that solo travel isn't about being brave (though you are), it's about being curious enough about the world and yourself to explore both.
Solo travel has given me incredible stories, built my confidence, and deepened my appreciation for all that the world has to offer.
But perhaps most importantly, it's shown me that the best travel companion I'll ever have is myself – and I believe the same is true for you.
So whether you're planning your first solo adventure or your fiftieth, I'm here to be your virtual wingwoman. Let's explore this beautiful world together, one solo adventure at a time.
